The comments in the media could often appear incendiary. Yet by and large, the relationship between Louis Jacobs and the leadership of the United Synagogue and its Chief Rabbis remained rather cordial. The passion with which some religious and lay members of Anglo-Jewry debated the theological underpinnings of the Affair eventually abated. Yet Jacobs remained subject to some extremely harsh, personal attacks, particularly in correspondences, but also in the media outlets of the haredi community locally or abroad.
